[ Determined | Dedicated | Optimistic | Ambitious | Impatient | Irascible | Self-concious | Guilt-ridden ]
Determined;; Come on, this is a no-brainer. Alcina is a strong, independent gray tabby she-cat, she don't need no man. Well, not exactly. Every now and then she does need a pick-me-up, as she is prone to anxiety attacks when times get tough. She is determined not to let that show, though, and to only let on the good things about her. She is a positive addition to the the tribes. She is a good warrior. She is cared about. She will not accept anything less to be believed of her, even if she has secretly never forgiven herself for what she was unable to accomplish in the past.
Dedicated;; A failure in her youth, Alcina will do her darnedest in order to be useful to the tribes. Her duties are everything to her these days. Friends are not her first priority at the moment. She just wants to be useful. She doesn't want to drag anyone down, she doesn't want to be detrimental anymore. So, she has pledged herself to spend her life living in and contributing to the tribes. Never will she ever even consider leaving - her siblings died trying to get there. She knows that she must stay, no matter what happens, in honor of them if nothing else.
Optimistic;; She always tries to see the silver lining in the clouds. She really does. Sure, her prey was stolen - but the cat who stole it was surely desperate if they went to such lengths just to get a scrawny little mouse. "They probably needed it more than I did." If possible, she will brush the bad things off her shoulder. (Of course, unless they are actually about her. Then she will assume the worst.) Sometimes she can be a huge bit of a hypocrite when it comes to this. Believe it or not, when speaking to another cat she is fairly modest. Sarcastic sometimes, sure, but still.
Ambitious;; No one will ever drive Alcina, but she will willingly and loyally follow a leader she trusts. In her profession, Alcina is not afraid of getting her hands dirty. She'll do everything in her power to maintain the wellness of her tribe, and is somewhat hostile to change.
Impatient;; Alcina's impatience will be the death of her. When she wants something, she wants it right then and there. She's always had this trait, but it seems that everything has become more urgent to her ever since her siblings' deaths. She didn't act fast enough then, and it cost them their lives. As a result, she is anxious about everything possibly happening too late, or she won't get there fast enough. She won't ever slow down if she knows that something needs to be done and she can help it. She won't tolerate anyone getting in the way of that, either - it's simple, really. She would rather stretch her own limits to the brink than let someone else suffer a few extra minutes.
Irascible;; It doesn't take much to fan the flames of Alcina's fire. She is normally passionate about life, taking everything in stride and believing that every good and bad thing happens for a reason. However, if something happens to go against her beliefs (whether those particular ones or not), she will rebel against it. Insults are like daggers poking at her - they agitate her. She will inevitably defend herself. Most of the time she has enough control over herself not to let her anger boil over, but if the shoe fits, she might just end up lashing out. So, yes, she is a bit quick-tempered, but she has trained herself to keep her claws sheathed and her lips tight in those situations.
Self-conscious;; Negative opinions and rumors about Alcina will torment her, as she doesn't have too much self-assurance in the first place. Even if they weren't intended to cause her harm, whenever someone mentions anything she is embarrassed about, she won't be able to handle it. If there is anything logical she can do to get them to shut up about it, she will do it. Or, if that doesn't work, she may either 'play along' or attempt to change the subject. Once she gets into the swing of things in Earth-Tribe and is comfortable with her standings in training, she will relax a little and try to make some more friends. Better to have friends than enemies in other tribes, right?
Guilt-ridden;; It might seem out of place, but Alcina is secretly swimming in guilt beneath her veil of self-assurance. Ever since she was made Silver - no, ever since her siblings died, she's felt unworthy of the air she breathes - let alone her silver tattoo. "It should've been one of them instead." All her talk of proving herself and pulling her own weight is just that - talk. In all honesty, not even pushing herself to the point of collapse has made her feel any better about what she has. She feels lost and helpless, and nothing she did or experienced had been able to change that, until she - or, she believes she - received a sign. Lavender flowers blew into her den from Spirits-knew-where after she pleaded for an explanation of 'why her'. It was at that moment she recalled her father's teachings about the meanings of flowers - specifically, lavender. He said that they were thought to represent strong devotion and virtue. This 'sign' has granted her some understanding of why, but she still feels as though she must continue actively proving herself. Even if she'll never feel like she's doing everything right, she thinks she must at least try to stay away from doing everything wrong.
{ Backstory }
Warmth's Embrace. || The feel of a soft kitten's pelt against an adult's worn one. That was Alana's favorite thing about being a mother. She'd found refuge in a place far from the tribes with her mate, Collin. The pair had found what they believed to be a good place to birth Alana's kittens in the cold, far north; more specifically, in a hollowed-out tree in the middle of a moor. There was one male in the litter, whom Alana named Toru, and two females: Aiko, Nakita, and Cerys. All was well for a while, but soon, Alana was overwhelmed. The stress of raising kittens was a heavy weight for her to bear, even with Collin by her side. The tree they lived in was not enough protection against the harsh weather conditions, and Vivian decided that the family could not afford to stay there. After speaking to Collin about the matter, the pair left together, their four, barely-one-moon-old kits trailing behind them. Cerys was the hardest to convince to get moving; despite her young age, she'd already developed a strong attachment her home. Nevertheless, after a quick but heavy meal, they set off, each glancing back warily as the distance between them and their old home increased.
Reality's Touch. || Six in a row, the family trudged through the snow for many miles. It wasn't long before the adults had to carry the kittens; the young felines' short, stubby legs didn't take them far before they couldn't walk anymore. Most of the kittens simply fell asleep, the rhythmic churning of snow lulling them to sleep. Cerys, however, did her darnedest to stay awake, falling in and out of consciousness in short cycles. She wanted to know where they were going, and see the land that they were leaving behind ... When most of the kittens woke, their parents were still walking. Hadn't eaten a thing since they'd left. That was when they ran into trouble. A heavy snowstorm stuck, sucking almost all of Alana's and Collin's strength from them. Eventually, they had to make the kittens walk on their own. That was when Aiko disappeared. In a panic, the family searched for half a day for the tiny kitten, but it was in vain. There was no way they could find her in this blizzard. With much grief, Alana and Collin accepted the young she-kit's loss, and moved on. They continued their travels for another half-day before finally stopping to find something to eat and a warm place to sleep. They found a long, narrow cave in a cliff-face, and took shelter there, feeding on the rats that lived inside. It was at this time that they were weaned. A bit early in comparison to most other kittens, but it wasn't like they knew that.
Cold's Merciless Grasp. || Collin sometimes spoke about his brother, Ronan, and how he kept trying to convince him to bring his own family over sometime. Eventually, he succeeded - Ronan sent over his son, Atlas, to play with Cerys and her two remaining siblings. In reality, he'd been sent to kittensit, but Cerys refused to think of it like that. She enjoyed Atlas's company and was convinced she was responsible enough to handle herself. Why would she need a kittensitter? Anyway, Atlas came to visit regularly every quarter moon for about five and a half moons. Cerys' father often told stories about his grandfather, their great grandfather, who had once been part of something called a "tribe". Cerys became immersed in his tales of glory and grandeur, feeling something burn within her when she learned that he was eventually exiled from his tribe for his "misplaced faith". Those five moons must have been the best times of her life, though, looking back upon them. Upon reaching her sixth moon, her father contracted a deadly illness. It didn't take long before he was it overtook him, and when that happened ... Alana lost it. The kittens' mother left them in the dust after they buried their father, leaving only one instruction for them behind: "Find the tribes. It's what he wanted." And that they did, with Cerys leading the way ... They had never even noticed the colorless tattoos that had recently appeared on them.
Misplaced Faith. || Despite it only being early autumn when they set off, it was already getting colder. Cerys, Nakita, and Toru had it rough on their way to the tribes, pushing against chilly gusts of wind and gathering storm clouds. Occasionally Cerys had them stop to look for another cat who could confirm that they were going in the right direction, and over all, this technique served them well. Though, brother and sister didn't follow her blindly. The thing that fueled their spirits most was the hope that on the other side of this mountain they were scaling, there would be some sort of paradise waiting for them. They placed their faith in Cerys, not doubting her ability to get them there despite her knowing no more about the tribes than them. Cerys took pride in their progress once autumn came to a close and winter's cold came streaming in once more - they were only a few more weeks' travel away now. The young cats' excitement grew more and more with each passing day. But were they wrong to feel that way?
Finding Strength. || It seemed too good to be true, that all of them had made it this far. The night after that thought dawned in Cerys' mind, though, a particularly heavy snowstorm hit them. It was, in fact, too good to be true; the gray tabby just didn't realize that till the morning came. She'd called for them to take cover through the night in a rather tightly-fitting crevice, hoping that they would be able to stay a little warmer in there than they would be out in the open. She was wrong. The wind's direction shifted not long into the night, blowing the snow into their temporary shelter and trapping them in the snow late into the next morning. It only after the snow had melted a little bit that Alcina finally fully pulled herself from unconsciousness. It was uncomfortably quiet when she did so, and colder than it should have been with the three littermates all curled up together. She glanced at her siblings warily, an expression of pure horror eclipsing her face as she realized what horrible fate had befallen them. "They froze to death," she rasped blankly, nosing them as though she couldn't believe them to be dead. They ... they trusted my decision ... willingly accepted my idea ... but I was really leading them to their deaths...
As you could assume, this simply broke her down. It crushed her. All faith she had previously had in herself had dissolved, until a mere fraction of self-worth remained. She mourned her brother and sister for three days before continuing the journey to the tribes. Their journey... she would be sure to reach the end, since they were not able to ... It was all her fault, so she was obligated to do this...
Spirits, if you're really up there, please ... Give me strength...
And so, she found the tribes. The Earth-Spirit was the one to claim her, she discovered, gifting her with the very power she'd asked to receive - the secondary Earth-Tribe ability, strength - as well as a new name and the primary power, and a new start in the tribes. If she accepted, she was to be Alcina, a leader of Earth-Tribe. And accept she did; for one, she had no qualms against joining the tribes, and second, there was just no way she could decline. It was almost perfect. Almost. Perhaps, if Aiko, Toru, and Nakita had been here ... Perhaps, then, it would have been. But one thing astounded her into believing that maybe her travels hadn't been completely worthless - not long after she arrived, her cousin Felix did, too.

A fresh scent soon pierced the dark-striped she-cat's nose. It was one she'd smelled before, at least faintly. Crouching low, she searched her mind for a memory of a scent that matched this one. In the caves, there were a few like this, but this didn't smell like the caves. Not Water-Tribe, or Earth-Tribe, or Light-Tribe, probably not Fire-Tribe... She wiggled her toes, delving deeper into her mind. Think, think. If you can't figure this out then you're trash! The Pink/Orange-Earth blinked as she came to a conclusion. It was so obvious! Where else could it come from but Shadow-Tribe? She smirked as the cat came into view at last. One glance at his blue/green active tattoo confirmed her suspicions. She stayed low, though, as he seemed to be hunting. Most likely a warrior.
Alcina watched with interest as the Shadow-Tribe adolescent paused, staring at the water shrew. Moments later, the little rodent started walking towards him. An expression of intrigue shadowed that of surprise. Mind control? That's... amazing. A teensy bit creepy, but of course, I would've expected that of Shadow-Tribe anyway. The white-chested apprentice chuckled as the tom killed and ate the shrew, immediately silencing herself as he looked over to her. Uh-oh, I've been spotted. The Pink/Orange-Earth straightened up when the Shadow-Triber approached. "Heya, Blue/Green-Shadow. I wasn't really doing anything, to be honest. I saw you hunting though. I've never seen that technique before." She paused, thinking about mentioning that she was still rather new to the tribes, but thought better of it. "...It was pretty cool, if you ask me."
