In order to factor in the population and environment of the tribes when litters are born, a system to "roll" for kittens has been established. In addition, wait times for requesting rolls have been nullified. More info on this can be found below.
Upon being approved, coupled cats will be eligible to request a kitten roll for their characters, if they so choose. However, there are repercussions to requesting a roll straight away. If Couple A just became mates and requested a kitten roll shortly after, the odds that their litter would consist of 1 or 2 kittens will be very high. However, if Couple A chooses to wait a few moons in game/a month or more real time, their chances for a larger litter will increase. Essentially, the longer you wait for a roll, the more likely you are to have a larger litter.
The wait-time between mated cats having litters will be 8 moons in game (3 months in real life). This is the minimum wait time, so that if the couple chooses to get a new roll straight away, the new litter will be born around the same time the previous litter reaches the age of 9 moons.
The amount of kits that a couple has for their second or third litter is based on two important factors. The first is the amount of kits they had in the previous litter. Take Basil and BlankCat for example; In their first litter, they had 4 kittens. Because of this, the chances of getting 4 kittens in their next litter are low, and it will be much more likely that they will have a smaller litter. The second thing that can influence how many kits a couple has is the population of kits/apprentices in the Tribes at the time of the roll. If there are 3 litters in the tribes at the time that the second Basil x BlankCat litter is planned, the chances of having a larger litter is low. Because of this, there would be a higher chance of 1 or 2 kits in the litter instead of 3, 4, 5, or 6 kittens.
The limit on kittens per individual cat (not pairing) is 15 kittens. This does not include stillborn kits, but does include all others, including kits that die before reaching adulthood.
If a cat has more than 10 offspring they will receive special rolls. For example, a cat with 13 offspring would only be eligible for a litter of 1 or 2 kits, that way extra kits from a normal roll won't have to be declared stillborn.
Now, onto the rolling process:
A random number generator will be used to determine how many kittens will be in the litter. It will be set to 1-100. The average roll will have the odds set (relatively) evenly between the six possibilities. (The odds of receiving 3 or 4 kittens is slightly higher because 100 does not divide evenly by 6, and they are the middle numbers.)
1-15 = 1 kitten
16-30 = 2 kittens
31-50 = 3 kittens
51-70 = 4 kittens
71-85 = 5 kittens
86-100 = 6 kittens
If there is a small population in the tribes at that time, then there will be a highly likelihood of rolling a larger litter (50-70 = 5 kittens, 71-100 = 6 kittens). Similarly, if the population is too high, then the odds will tip in favor of a smaller litter (1-30 = 1 kittens, 31-50 = 2 kittens).
Whether the odds are higher or lower will not be shared publicly or with the members of the group. We're doing this because we do not want too many people crowding in when the odds for a large litter are high, and we do not want people avoiding it when the odds for a smaller litter are high.
The character's gender, tribe, and ability will still be rolled by use of a virtual die. The die will be rolled three times. Each number will indicate a specific trait (respectively of each roll). The numbers will stand for the following:
1: Female | Fire Tribe | Primary
2: Female | Water Tribe | Secondary
3: Female | Earth Tribe | Primary
4: Male | Shadow Tribe | Secondary
5. Male | Light Tribe | Primary
6. Male | Air Tribe | Secondary
Example:
Basil and BlankCat decide to have another litter of kittens. Their players, Syco and BlankUser, go to the Kit Roll board and apply for a kitten roll.
First Roll: The population is average, but Basil and BlankCat already have an existing litter consisting of 4 kittens. The roller runs the random number generator, factoring in the odds for a lower number of kittens. The number is 45. Therefore, the litter will have 2 kittens.
Second Roll: The roller rolls the dice (2 times, for each kitten). The rolls are: 4 and 6. Therefore, the kittens will be both be male.
Third Roll: The roller rolls the dice again. The rolls are: 3 and 4. Therefore, the kittens will go to Earth Tribe and Shadow Tribe.
Fourth Roll: The roller rolls the dice one more time. The rolls are: 1 and 4. Therefore, the kittens will be Primary and Secondary.
The Kittens: Male Primary Earth Tribe - Male Secondary Shadow Tribe.
Pregnancy will last roughly one month in real-time, but certainly no more than 2 months. Two months (6 moons in game) after their birth, they will attend the Ceremony of Light to receive their tattoos.
